Zelienople
Guy Lochhead, 04/01/12
Dark psychedelic drone band from Chicago, America. They make organic-sounding drones that maintain a sort of coldness. Some songs are instrumental, some have hushed vocals. Some flirt with pop structures, some begin poppy then disintegrate, others steer clear altogether. I suppose the pop slant on these songs could go either way – it could open up this sort of music to new audiences, or it could end up halfway between; diluted drones. Personally, I sympathise more with the latter category. I like my drones deep and warm. This has an industrial edge to the vocals, reverb and metallic noises that turns me off it. Related to inclusion, they’re just a band… I like that there’s a place called Zelienople.
