Ishimoto is a Japanese American photographer whose work draws together photographical approaches of both cultures, whilst retaining a unique eye for subtle social commentary in the form of framing choices and composition. He is best known for his photography of Chicago, but he has travelled widely and photographed many places.
Ishimoto is a gifted photographer, but his insistence on social commentary sometimes gets in the way of the society he’s trying to comment on. The art side of it is sometimes not transparent enough. His story is not incredible enough either, I suppose.
