Willis Alan Ramsey
Guy Lochhead, 15/04/12
Iconic Texan singer-songwriter who released one self-titled album in 1972. His songs were stories grounded in the American country tradition, but presented with a sort of nonchalant confidence rare for a debut. He is currently mixing his long-awaited second album, Gentilly. His first albums have been covered many times by various other artists. Yeah, it’s solid music, but it’s hardly revolutionary. It’s very, very well composed and performed rural white American music. I like that he can survive off one solid album for so long, and I like his attitude towards putting out a second album (“What’s wrong with the first one?”) but, as I said, they’re just songs.
