Willie D is an icon of Houston rap. He was one third of the Geto Boys before going solo with his hardcore, sort-of-political styles. Although Willie D’s lyrics are often shocking, he tries to mix in a moral message too. The result of this is often confusing and self-contradictory. I have the same problem with a lot of KRS-One – both simultaneously condemn and glorify violence. He comes across well in interviews but then feels the need to get hardcore on record.
