Theosophical Society
Guy Lochhead, 08/09/10
Organization formed in 1875 to advance Theosophy, a doctrine believing all religions to be partly right, and contributing to a “Spirtual Hierarchy” that aims to evolve humanity. The society’s “three declared objectives” are to form a universal, equal brotherhood; to encourage the study of comparative religion, philosophy and science; and to investigate the unexplained laws of nature and man. This is so stupid. The ‘universal brotherhood’ idea was scuppered by its founders when one of their colleagues died – they bickered and formed different societies within four years of their loss. A comparative study of religion, philosophy and science suggests that all three areas are level. They’re not (or, they are, at the very least, completely different from each other. I don’t even know what “level” means here..). “Unexplained laws of nature” doesn’t even make sense. Gross!
