Thee Oh Sees
Guy Lochhead, 07/12/10
Thee Oh Sees is one of John Dwyer’s (Coachwhips, Pink and Brown, Landed, Yikes, Burmese, The Hospitals, Zeigenbock Kopf) many musical projects. Originally formed in 1997 as an outlet for his home-recorded instrumentals, it has grown into a full four-piece (with vocals and everything!) that has released 10 albums to date. The addition of Brigid Dawson was a turning point in the band’s development, adding a new melodic sensibility that wasn’t there before. This is just pretty unremarkable, backwards-looking rock music with occasional (probably analogue, of course) delay experiments and maybe the shittest band name of all time. What does that mean, and why it spelt like that?
