The Seeds

American psychedelic garage rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965. They were one of the first bands to use keyboards to provide the bassline to their songs. Their sound shifted from straight garage rock to a more psychedelic sound and aesthetic through the decade, but they never matched the acclaim of their early singles, and broke up in 1970. Singer Sky Saxon has periodically reformed the band in many different incarnations and released albums from the ’60s through to the present day. Some early Seeds songs are absolute crackers. Their first two singles, ‘Pushing Too Hard’ and ‘Can’t Seem To Make You Mine’, are raw and unhinged – two of my favourite garage singles. There’s nothing beside that that would merit their inclusion, though.
