Also known as ‘Switchblade Sisters’, The Jezebels is a 1975 exploitation film that follows a “Playgirl Gang” of violent women terrorising a high school community, fighting outsiders and each other and trying to deal with a new threat to their turf. This is one of Quentin Tarantino’s favourite films. Lame campy sexualised violence of the sort that might be damagingly dismissed as “good fun” or something. There’s no element of empowerment either – rather than being some exciting feminist revenge fantasy, the film plays on female stereotypes and even the most “dangerous” characters end up subservient to minor male roles…
