The Grey Goo Scenario
Guy Lochhead, 01/09/10
The term ‘grey goo’ was first used by nanotechnology pioneer Eric Drexler in his 1986 book ‘Engines of Creation’. It is a hypothetical end-of-the-world scenario in which self-replicating molecular nanotechnological robots consume all matter on Earth while building more of themselves. I like it that ‘grey goo’ can mean so much, but I don’t really know I’d incorporate it, or if I even want to.
