The Feelies
Guy Lochhead, 29/10/11
New Jersey rock group who were set apart from their late-’70s punk and new wave contemporaries by their layered guitars, attention to tone, silences and driving rhythms. They released ‘Crazy Rhythms’ on Stiff Records in 1980 but sort of split up after that, feeling that the label was more into self-promotion than the band. They have been together on and off since then, reforming in 1985 and, most recently, in 2008. I really like The Feelies’ sound but I don’t think it’s radical or original enough (biiiig Velvets influence?!) to be included here. Still, I recommend and will continue to enjoy them!
