UK DJ, producer and founder, with 23 Skidoo, of Ronin Records. Originally known as DJ Agzilla, he put out UK underground hip hop records in the late ’80s and early ’90s. By 1995, he began releasing his own material. Of the “big beat”, “trip hop” school of production, Deckwrecka keeps things fairly low-fi with his soul-jazz samples. I don’t know how this can be so closely associated with a genuinely innovative group like 23 Skidoo. This music just isn’t that exciting for me. Sampling offers limitless possibilities for genuinely explorative, original music. Deckwrecka’s not taking too many of them…
