The Church of the SubGenius
Guy Lochhead, 08/09/10
Parody religion apparently founded in the ‘50s (but actually in 1979) by the “world’s greatest salesman”, J. R. ‘Bob’ Dodds’, that promotes “slack” (doing away with personal goals in order to be content with what one has), whilst satirizing religion, conspiracy, UFOs and popular culture. Originally based in Dallas, Texas, the Church gained prominence in the 1980s and ‘90s subculture and membership continues to grow through the Internet. There’s no need to subscribe to an organised body of like-minded individuals online. Being online is enough. It’s all a bit of fun, and it’s not worth including.
