Terry Southern
Guy Lochhead, 01/09/10
American writer and lecturer, known for his distinctive satirical style. He was at the forefront of many counterculture movements – the post-war Paris and Beat scenes, Swinging London in the ‘60s, American independent filmmaking in the ‘70s, and then writer for SNL and screenwriting lecturer in the ‘80s. He’s also credited with having invented New Journalism with ‘Twirling at Ole Miss’. Southern was the ultimate hipster; completely non-committal. I did want to include him beause Twirling at Ole Miss is a great piece of writing, but I’ve changed my mind. So there.
