Florida-based outsider artist and aluminium can recycler who made pop art sculptures out of ringpulls. The practice started with a bet – that his friends couldn’t drink enough beers to line ringpulls all the way to the garage – and developed during his retirement to a whole load of pieces, apparently using four million ringpulls. The works were arranged around his trailer home to create a “visionary environment”. He died in 1995. Good on Ray! There’s a probably some sort of nice environmental message to read into this, but I don’t think the rest of the story is rich enough in meaning to be included. I do love me some outsider American roadside art though, much of which reuses objects in this way, so I’ll keep an eye out.
