Nicholas Tomalin
Guy Lochhead, 27/08/10
English journalist and writer included in Tom Wolfe’s ‘New Journalism’, though markedly different in style. He was killed aged 41 while covering the fight on the Golan Heights between Israeli and Syrian armed forces during the Yom Kippur War. Tomalin is an example of fantastically, honestly involved investigative journalism. He didn’t fall into the trap of writing himself centre-stage, as many ‘New Journalists’ did, but instead uses that new energy to write with a bluntness and clarity that doesn’t patronise the reader or cave to editorial pressures. Though it’s difficult to find collections of articles, I will try to include ‘Nicholas Tomalin Reporting’.
