Project by Chicago-based musician Pramod Tummala that pairs creaky samples of dulcimers and warped strings/organs with soft harmonious singing and cinematic ’60s pop elements, in the borrowing-but-innovative style of all the best crate-digging producers.
Tummala’s music is undeniable beautiful, and the scope of his sample-base is impressive, but the finished form is a bit twee and doesn’t really do anything. Less emphasis is placed on the samples than the work of, say, Madlib, so I don’t feel I could include it on that basis, and the lyrics and singing are just a bit… crap, really. A bit boring. I don’t get why indie dudes like Boomkat got so excited about it, really…
