1983 pioneering platform game for the ZX Spectrum, programmed by the enigmatic Matthew Smith. The game was made quickly – in eight weeks, which is even more impressive when you take into account the fact Smith could only program at night because the system would shut down if his mum put the kettle on. Smith invented all sorts of ways round the Spectrum’s limitations, resulting in the first use of a continuous soundtrack, an animated loading screen and other more subtle innovations. Include the original ‘Bug Byte’ release of the game.
