Mack Sennett
Guy Lochhead, 24/08/10
Slapstick comedy pioneer and founder of the first soundstage, Keystone Studios. Sennett’s importance in developing the language of comedy – and film in general – is recognised in his induction the Walk of Fame and other accolades, but his comedy now is so dated and offensive that many of his films can’t really be screened anymore. He often relied on racist and sexist stereotypes to get laughs, and was unwilling to move with the times, which led to him falling out of public favour. Ha ha ha.
