A really incredible pilot. She won the 1936 Bendix Trophy Race (the first woman to ever achieve this, in the first year women were allowed to race men). Her flying helmet was carried into space in 1991 to recognise how good she was at flying an aeroplane. She was really, really good at flying an aeroplane, but that’s it.
