American publisher specialising in alternative political non-fiction. The company was set up in 1975 and the president of Loompanics was Michael Hoy. Books were sold through a mail-order catalogue that always included an iconic WWII graphic reading “Our men want books”. Loompanics book topics included drugs, weapons, sex, anarchism, conspiracy theory etc., from all points on the political spectrum – “the most controversial and unusual books”. The Loompanics publishing house was an obstacle to cosy passive libertarianism – a result of Hoy’s personal agenda – but the titles it carried were largely irrelevant and easily dismissable. It’s interesting, but a bit depressing and not worth including.
