Irish-born ‘Spanish’ dancer, courtesan and mistress of King Ludwig I of Bavaria. She was determined, and with a fierce temper that saw her moved around between families and schools when she was young. She became a dancer but was more famous for accepting favours from wealthy men. She was immortalised in the
song/saying, ‘Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets’. Montez had a wild and varied life, from being Countess of Landsfield to entertaining gold miners in Australia, but there’s nothing admirable there.
