Late Arrivals/Winged Boot Club
Guy Lochhead, 03/08/10
This was an informal group of airmen who bailed out over enemy territory and walked to freedom, without capture. The ‘late arrivals’ refers to their return long after ETA. Members were awarded a badge of a winged boot, worn under the left jacket lapel, as it was not official uniform. As with most of the other examples of unofficial military clubs I’ve looked at, I like these groups as necessary, positive reactions to the horrors of war. Include the badge on the first character’s uniform, worn under the left lapel.
