Lalo Schifrin
Guy Lochhead, 30/10/11
Argentine film and television soundtrack composer probably most well-known for his ‘Mission: Impossible’, ‘Dirty Harry’ and ‘Starsky and Hutch’ work. He has been widely recognised as one of the soundtrack greats, with four Grammy Awards (and twenty one nominations), six Oscar nominations, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His are “classic” film soundtracks, doing a neat line in creeping, suspenseful, jazz-inflected orchestral spy music. Other than that, I don’t really see why he describes himself (or an agent describes him) as a “Rennaisance Man”… Not worth including. One of his solo albums has a great title, btw: ‘There’s A Whole Lalo Schifrin Goin’ On’.
