Julia Donaldson
Guy Lochhead, 03/08/10
English writer of children’s poems, songs and novels, the most famous of which is ‘The Gruffalo’. I find Julia Donaldson really annoying, and I don’t understand why The Gruffalo is so popular. It borrows heavily from the far better ‘Where The Wild Things Are’, and from Chinese folklore. I’d much rather include her influences. You can buy a CD of songs she wrote with her partner when they were in their twenties, and I originally thought that was quite exciting, but it wasn’t. She’s sort of like a caricature of that frumpy adult figure that doesn’t exist outside of primary schools and children’s book authors.
