José Giovanni
Guy Lochhead, 11/09/10
French-Swiss writer and filmmaker whose work is characterised by his championing of the underworld, masculine friendships and the confrontation of the individual against the world. He was a former racketeer who at one time was sentenced to death after a venture turned murderous (though he himself killed no one). He escaped the guillotine after being pardoned by Vincent Auriol, but not before serving twenty years of hard labour. His work is too macho and violent to be included. His character development relies on injustice.
