American journalist. The only journalist to cover each American war over half a century. He wrote ‘An Eye For An Eye: The Untold Story Of Jewish Revenge Against Germans In 1945’, which caused great controversy.
Sack is a fantastic writer who is able to see the humanity in horror without ever diluting or reinterpreting truth. He is what journalistic writing should be about. I don’t want to including ‘Eye For An Eye’, and will instead include his 1959 book about thirteen tiny places, ‘Report From Practically Nowhere’. Although the situation in many of the places has changed (some of them no longer exist), the care and curiosity with which Sack approaches each country/state is inspirational, and the non-existence of some of the places now makes the book even more magical.
