American director, most well-known for his sci-fi and horror films (Halloween, They Live etc.) His films usually coat a serious anti-establishment message in pop film structures and special effects.
Carpenter’s films are harmless and, I think, pretty bad. He has elevated ideas about the success of his films – describing his poorly received films’ audiences as not wanting to be ‘enlightened’. Yuck. ‘They Live’ is alright, and inspired Shepard Fairey’s ‘obey’ stickers, and ‘Dark Star’ is a pretty great student film, but still…
