American animator who pioneered “claypainting”, in which she manipulates modelling clay frame-by-frame to create the illusion of movement. She won an Oscar in 1992 for ‘Mona Lisa Descending A Staircase’, a short film that moved between various iconic portraits to create a history of Western art. She has made a few films since, but spends most of her time travelling and teaching others how to claypaint.
An admirably time-consuming process, but I don’t feel like it’s used in a way that merits inclusion. Her students might though. I will keep an eye out.
