American retro power pop band formed by Andy Sturmer and Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. in 1989 in San Francisco. They released two acclaimed albums that drew on ’60s and ’70s West Coast pop sounds – ‘Bellybutton’ in 1990 and ‘Spilt Milk’ in 1993. The band’s sound and aesthetic were very much influenced by ’60s psychedelic pop. They broke up 1994, citing “creative differences”.
I’m so impatient with music this regressive, even if it sometimes sounds good. I’d always rather include the originators – Nerves, Beach Boys, Cheap Trick!
