Ex-Marine who wrote ‘The Short-Timers’, the book on which Kubrick’s ‘Full Metal Jacket’ was based. He was arrested in 1988 for stealing almost 750 books from libraries in America and England for ‘research’. He wrote a follow- up to The Short-Timers, ‘The Phantom Blooper’, and then a detective novel called ‘A Gypsy Good Time’, before dying of heart failure on an island in Greece. Weird guy. I’d rather include the film than the book.
