Elizabeth Báthory

‘The Blood Countess’. Hungarian countess and one of the most prolific female serial killers in history. Báthory was married to Nádasdy Ferenc in 1575, aged 15, in what was probably a political union within the Hungarian aristocracy. Her husband spent most of his time away at war with the Ottomans. Báthory was an educated woman who could read and write in four languages. There were several instances where she intervened on behalf of destitute women. After her husband’s death, she and four collaborators (her servants) were accused of torturing and killing hundreds of girls and young women. She was convicted for the murder of 80, though witness attribute over 600 deaths to her. She was imprisoned in Csejte Castle in 1610, bricked into a set of rooms until her death four years later. She has become a folk legend. This is horrific! Of course it won’t be included.
