American comedy-rock band started in 1983. Originally satirising and playing with Philadelphia hardcore bands, the band received some heavy rotation on MTV, toured nationally and had commercial success in the late ’80s – even getting signed to a Disney-affiliated label, Hollywood Records. Here they added a pop edge to their sound, but this was not met with any more success. They left the label in 1994 and broke up in 1995. They reunited in 2008, minus Dave Schulthise, who killed himself in 2004.
I don’t have a problem with “comedy rock” groups (HMHB) but I find very popular comedy rock groups generally to be pretty unfunny. Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren’t. It’s hit and miss. That’s the problem with being funny on a record company schedule. What is the point of Dead Milkmen?
