Clive Sinclair
Guy Lochhead, 20/06/10
British inventor and entrepreneur responsible for the pocket calculator, ZX Spectrum and Sinclair C5, among other less well-known inventions. Sinclair’s aim is to popularise technological innovations with low prices and ambitious marketing. He is also an advocate of electric vehicles. Sinclair’s inventions are notorious for being released before they are error-free. The releases are the beta models. I admire his ambition of enabling widespread use of affordable technology, but the product is often so poor that any other intentions are irrelevant. I do, however, want to include the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, as a forefather to the British IT industry, and a starting point for bedroom programmers all over the country.
