Carl Rungius
Guy Lochhead, 13/06/10
The first American career wildlife painter. He specialised in painting big game, and would stalk and hunt his subjects to better understand their movement. He began also illustrating, but gave that up in 1909 to become a full-time easel painter. Seems like a Hemingway sort of wounded masculine figure to me. Big man go hunting now.
