1979 film about an American teenager obsessed with cycling. He idolises Italian teams and adopts an Italian accent and a passion for Italian culture. Later, he realises he is fooling himself and reverts to his real roots (despite the local college prejudice against non-college people) without losing his drive or ambitions.
I loved this film, and not just because it’s about cycling (though the sequence of him fixing up his bike is very exciting), but it’s a well-made, accessible but original film with an inspiring, morally-sound plot that never gets boring or didactic.
