Rap group formed in 1989 in New Rochelle, New York. They were part of the Nation of Islam movement in late ’80s rap, and drew extra attention for the more militant way they approached the cause. By 1991, their main rapper, Grand Puba, had left and the group drifted more towards radical politics and polemic, which lost them some fans. They split up after the poor reception of 1994’s Everything Is Everything, but have reformed sporadically since.
Whatever good this group did, I can’t get over the homophobia in some of their lyrics. Duh.
