Blue’s Clues
Guy Lochhead, 02/09/10
American children’s television show. Original episodes were broadcast between 1996 and 2006. Repeats still air regularly in over sixty countries. The producers used concepts learned from child development and early-childhood education research to make the programme more engaging to pre-school aged children, thus enabling them to learn better. Each show was screen-tested to a small audience of preschoolers, with tweaks being added right up until the broadcast date. The show was an immediate and lasting success. It is not aimed at the same age range as I hope to write for, but its inclusion is more for its brilliant realisation of the power of television as a force for good. I will include the ‘ABC’s 123’s and More Collection’, which compiles three previously released DVDs presented by Steve, the original (better?) host.
