Babe Ruth’s Called Shot

In 1932, before hitting an important home run in the fifth inning of game three of the 1932 World Series, Babe Ruth pointed with his bat to a point in the stadium. This gesture has been the subject of much speculation, but has retained an iconic status, whatever the veracity of its meaning. The gesture is powerful – at least in American cultural memory – as a statement of intent, and it would be fun to include it as a sort of harbinger of a change of fortunes in some way..
